Among the vegetables grown in the province of Almeria (Spain), courgette and peppers had the greatest price increase (from the farmer to the consumer) last month. In the case of the green peppers, the difference stood at 534%, registering an average price of 0.29 Euro in origin and exceeding 1.80 Euro in destination. But greater still was the margin that the courgette showed, since the average value received by a farmer in August was 0.16 Euros, while the consumer had to pay for the same amount of product 1.34 Euro, ie a difference of 738%. "Precisely this vegetable has been the one with the worst prices for producers during the past month," acknowledged Andrés Góngora, provincial secretary of Coag-Almería.
