Over forty trade applications during Asia Fruit Logistica

Dutch onion export to Hong Kong increased greatly

The Dutch onion sector presented itself last week during the Fruit Logistica Asia in Hong Kong. From the 5th to the 7th of September one of the largest international fruit fairs in Asia was held there. With over forty trade applications the fair was successful once again. The Dutch onion sector, which exports over a million tonnes of onions each year, wants to gain a firmer grip on Asia with their participation.

Dutch onions

Dutch onions define themselves in many aspects. The high dry matter level caused by the day length and chalk rich Dutch ground make it possible to store the onions for longer. This way produce can be supplied worldwide when the buyer wants it to. With the Rotterdam, Antwerp and Vlissingen harbours nearby over a million tonnes of onions were exported last year alone.

The onion export to Hong Kong has increased greatly in the last few years. Over 2.3 million kg of onions was exported to Hong Kong last year. The annual turnover of onion export to Hong Kong is around€386,000. In total over€4.2 million Euro worth of fresh vegetables are exported to Hong Kong.

Fruit Logistica Asia

GroentenFruit Bureau, commissioned by the Dutch onion trade, realised a stand at the Fruit Logistica Asia in Hong Kong. GroentenFruit Bureau is the marketing communication bureau for and by the Dutch fruit and vegetable sector. With focused campaigns at home and abroad the image of fruits and vegetables is strengthened and the consumption increased.
