EU: New bioland potatoes allowed

The supply of seed potatoes in the EU is widening. The German grower Biolandhof Ellenberg reported recently that the new varieties 'Violetta' and 'Rote Emmalie' after testing in Britain are admitted and will soon be available throughout the EU .

The new seed potatoes were grown by Karsten Ellenberg, who in Germany was known for his commitment to the preservation of potato Linda. The first tubers in Scotland will soon be harvested.

According to Ellenberg the varieties Violetta and Rote Emmalie alongside other healthy ingredients also conducive to health, contain a dark pigment anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is a secondary plant substance which includes anti-inflammatory and vascular protective aspects. The Violetta has purple flesh and the Rote Emmalie has red pulp.
