Apple harvest Saxony at average level
The fruit growers in the German federal state of Saxony expect an apple harvest at normal level, as announced by the German website Proplanta.de. Although with that the harvest is about five percent smaller than last year, it is sufficient to cover the demand of the citizens of Saxony till the next harvest. Compared to the expected decrease of nine percent in Europe the decrease in Saxiny is modest.
"All is well with the cultivation of fruit in Saxony," the minister of Agriculture Frank Kupfer said during the official opening of the apple season in Leisnig on 30 August. The most appreciated apple varieties in Saxony are Jonagold, Jonagored, Idared, Gala, Golden, Shampion and Elstar, which belong to the varieties mostly grown in Europe. Also the quality of the Saxony apples is exemplary. "Our apples do not only look good, they also taste very good and are healthy," as per the minister
When judging freshness and contents and at official check-ups for residues of plant protection means the apples from Saxony are doing better than the European imports. Whoever chooses for apples from Saxony also does something good for the environment. The apples from the federal state are better for the climate balance than imports. Modern gas safe cold stores, which are just about standard in Saxony, take care of this.
