US (WA): First vision sorter to grade pear quality

In response to what they say is a clear market need, DK Equipment of Yakima, WA will give demonstrations of the new Frumac FULL SCAN unicup pear sorter in Bingen, Washington (about a 1 hour drive east of Portland).

The Frumac sorter, manufactured by Van Wamel Perfect with 65 years of manufacturing experience, will be demonstrated to packers on a request basis this September. Packers are encouraged to run their own pears through the 3 lane sorter to see the simple-to-operate user interface and assess the grading performance of surface russet percentage and other defects.

Pear packers can see with their own eyes how the proprietary transitions and cup rollers of the Frumac sorter eliminate belt burn and scuffing. The on-screen high resolution scans of the entire surface of the pear allow for optimal quality measurement and identification of defects.

With the accuracy of quality and defect sorting that the Frumac technology delivers, packers could save money on manual sorting labor while producing more consistently graded packs.
