Russia: Vegetables processing increased 30% in Astrakhan region

According to the latest information, as of August 31, 2012 about 18,957 tons of vegetables had been received at vegetables processing plants.

The volume increased 129.1%, as compared to 2011. During the period from August 24 to 31, 2012 the processing plants accepted over 2,969 tons of raw material.

Delicates Ltd., Astrakhan Conservnaya Company Ltd., and Astrakhan Natural Product Ltd. were among the first to start processing of vegetables this year.

Currently, the processed vegetables are mostly aubergines, squashes and cucumbers. Aubergines of diameter no more than 6 mm have just started to arrive to the plants for canning, as Kazakh-Zerno Information Agency reports.
