Enza Zaden expanding well in South Africa
Enza Zaden is expanding well in South Africa. With two new establishments: a joint venture in the area of Research and Development and an establishment to produce seed.
Westcape Biotech (Pty) Ltd.
On 18 July 2012 vegetable improvement company Enza Zaden and biotechnical company Expressive Research B.V. signed an agreement to enter into a joint venture by the name of Westcape Biotech (Pty) Ltd., established in Stellenbosch. With this Enza Zaden expands its capacity for especially cell and tissue cultivation activities.
This joint venture will offer its cell and tissue growing expertise in the area of all important agricultural and ornamental plants to clients worldwide. In addition this new establishment will do biotechnical research for clients in the area of molecular diagnostics of causes of sickness and (product) quality in a large field of (fruit) plants.
More efficient improving
Director of Enza Zaden Research & Development B.V. Joep Lambalk: "With the establishment of Westcape, Enza Zaden especially increases its capacity for its activities in cell and tissue growth considerably. Consequently we are in a position to support our improvers worldwide even better with products from cell and tissue growing processes. The effectiveness and efficiency of the improvement process is increased in an important way. We are also capable now to exploit our expertise in these processes outside of vegetable plants on behalf of various important agricultural and ornamental plants."
Increase of expertise and activities

On 28 February Enza Zaden South Africa was established. This company supports the seed production activities of Enza Zaden Seed Operations B.V. in South Africa and is established in Oudtshoorn. Director of Enza Zaden Seed Operations B.V., Vincent van Bentum: "Enza Zaden provides for more flexibility and independance. In order to control the expected growth of our seed producing activities in South Africa it is necessary to have one's own establishment in the country."
