Belgium: Move and extension at RURIS Herwi Borgloon

The Ruris Group is in the spotlight. The fruit department of the company Herwi in Borgloon, which has been part of the group since 2007, recently moved and has been extended. The new location is 100 metres away from the old one and is close to Veiling Borgloon. Herwi has more cold stores at this address to store top fruit, these are necessary to guarantee the quality of the fruit because of the increase in turnover. Also there is more space for lorries and the number of loading docks has been increased.

According to Laurent Beckers, sales manager, this extension means a continuation of the growth of Herwi and the group. "Because of the new cold stores we can keep fruit better ourselves at the correct temperature. Most of our products were at growers and with this our storage capacity has been increased by five. With the correct storage conditions we can now better anticipate the quality requirements of our clients."

Herwi looks forward to the new top fruit season. "At the moment it is quiet with us in the apple and pear trade. Together with the growers we are ready for the new season. In any case the fruit is beautiful and all our growers are working hard to get the harvest in."

Herwi, part of the Ruris-Group, has its roots in Belgian chicory. It was established as Heremans-Aerts in 1950 and the company started with the export of this local speciality. The in the meantime with Alpimex (established in 1985 and also a specialist in chicory) merged and company changed its name to Herwi. Slowly the number of export countries increased together with the product supply and today the company has grown internationally and supplies the entire vegetable selection to various countries all over the world. Herwi has establishments in Kampenhout and Borgloon.
