Italy: Picchi Farm a European leader in Habanero pepper production

The Italian farm Picchi is located in Torre del Lago (Viareggio-Lucca, Tuscany region) and deals with traditional and hydroponic cultivation of aromatic plants, especially chilli pepper.

Active on the horticultural market for over a century, the Picchi company has specialized in the cultivation of hot pepper in recent years, becoming a European leader.

As reported by some of the company's managers to FreshPlaza: "In Italy we are perhaps the only company to cultivate over 3,000 square meters of pepper in hydroponic and one hectare open field. We are among the first in Europe, if we consider that we cultivate in particular the variety Habanero. Our fresh production is marketed exclusively by Esselunga supermarkets."

The fresh product, is accompanied by an extensive line of processed products such as pate, flavoured salts, powders, seasoning and more. The complete catalogue will be officially presented at Foodex Japan 2013.
