Petrolina producers are anticipating a 50% loss.

Brazil: Drought makes hard times for banana crop

On a 4-acre banana plantation near Petrolina, Brazil, times are hard. According to the grower the 2,500 banana trees, of the pacova and prata variety, are suffering from an enduring drought in the region.

The damage can be clearly seen in the leaves: they seem to be affected by some kind of fungus, but in fact they are scorched. It hasn’t rained since March in the Valle do São Francisco, and the drought is thought to continue.
