GNT to highlight strawberries, persimmons at AFL

The upcoming Asia Fruit Logistica conference in Hong Kong will afford the Gyeongnam Trading Inc. (GNTI) the opportunity to promote their upcoming fruit season. Two of the commodities they'll ship in the coming months are strawberries and persimmons.

GNT is a South Korean exporter which ships produce throughout Asia, Europe and North America. At the Fruit Logistica conference, they'll highlight the main fruit varieties they'll ship this fall.

“Strawberries and persimmons are our main exports during the autumn season,” said Jeff Jun of GNT. Though they won't have sizeable volumes of either until the end of September, he said they'll promote those items at the conference in order to give their customers a sense of what they can expect.

The plan this year, said Jun, is to export 1,200 tons of strawberries and 2,000 tons of persimmons throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Canada and Russia. With so many Asian countries on that list, it makes sense to have a presence at Asia Fruit Logistica.

“AFL is a good place to meet all of our customers in one site,” he said. “There's no need to visit each country.”

Though GNT has shipped melons, grapes, tomatoes and cabbage this summer, the main commodities are strawberries and persimmons. So for now, said Jun, they're preparing for the fall export season.

“We won't be very busy until the end of September,” he said. “But come October, we'll be very busy.”
