dia Food, a part of ABM Holdings, is a company based in Murcia, Spain. They specialise in the delivery of the entire fresh produce supply chain, from raising the plants, packing the harvested produce, delivering the goods and - of ever increasing importance - enabling full food traceability. As the company themselves put it, "From seed to you." As well as having control of the whole supply chain the company's food traceability protocol is served be accreditation of, amongst others, Global GAP, The British Retail Consortium and Field to Fork.
The company produce and market a range of lettuces, vegetables and melons, for sale across most of Europe; 20 countries including the UK, Norway, Sweden, and biggest of all for them, Germany.
Customers are divided between the retail and food processing sectors.
Iceberg lettuce is one of their biggest product line. Recently there have been signs that some countries' consumers are moving away from lettuces like Iceberg, in favour of more colourful varieties. Antonio Zaragoza, from Arkadia, says the company is noticing this in the European marketplace however.
"The volume of iceberg produced and sold is, more or less stable. It is the same as it was two years ago."
Notwithstanding this fact Arkadia are looking to extend their lettuce range, to incorporate, for example, Apollo, Kos and Xanadu. In addition to this they are looking to add Spinach to their list of products.
