Rudi Coosemans:
"Belgium: "Almost a Euro difference between local and export chicory"
On the chicory market in Belgium everything is still markedly quiet. "Local prices are low and the reason for this is not really known," Rudi Coosemans of the import/export company of the same name tells. "We sell our chicory mainly in America, Canada, the Far East and Asia and this market is doing well. There is a good difference in price between the local chicory and that for export."
"Last week Flandria chicory came out at 40/50 cents on average and we pay almost one Euro more for export chicory. The higher price is caused by the special packing and the work involved. Also these products are of superior quality." According to Rudi the local market normally improves in the beginning of September. "It has been a changeable summer. There were unexpected market prices. However, I expect better local prices for the coming period. It is almost impossible that they will remain low."
The Coosemans Group is represented worldwide mainly in the United States.
Also in Belgium Kampenhout Coosemans is established. Rudi is the manager here. The company have for a period of more than 30 years specialised in the supply of chicory and other European vegetables to America, Canada and Asia.
