Eddy Jager van Jaguar: 60% less ellendales from Argentina and Uruguay
"Netherlands: "Good old fashioned lemon season"
The supply of South American lemons is coming to a close. "We will offer Argentinian lemons for another 1 to 2 weeks, and Uruguayan for another 4 weeks at the most," says Eddy Jager of Jaguar. The importer speaks of a good old fashioned season. "I do not expect any change, looking at the diminished stocks. The Argentinian season started late with good prices, and it hasn't really stopped since."
"We are also still in the season of the South African Valencias. Demand is on the rise, and we have Valencias available until mid October," Eddy continues. We also started offering Argentinian ellendales, but the availability is considerably lower. We expect 6% less ellendales from both Argentina and Uruguay, because a lot of produce was lost due to early frost. We have a nice ellendales schedule available to us, and my estimate is, that we will have an even better season than last year. We will receive ellendales from Argentina as well as Uruguay until the middle of September."
"New markets, such as the Middle and Far East pose no threat to those countries as far as export to Europe is concerned," according to the importer. "The Middle and Far East are destinations for smaller citrus fruit in particular, and these come mainly from South Africa. We do not operate in those markets, but ellendales are almost exclusively exported to Europe. South America exports mainly smaller fruit, like Murcott, to the Middle East. Price levels are around 13-15 Euro. So it is possible to have an even crazier start of the season!"
