Futures prices Eurex-potatoes increased

The Eurex-futures prices for processing potatoes of the new harvest have increased further. Last Monday a total of 620 contracts were entered into, most if these for April 2013. The goods for supply in November were settled at Euro 16.30/100 kg. That is Euro 1.50 more per 100 kg. than last week.

Prices for delivery in April are even stronger, namely by about 18% to Euro 22.70/100 kg. The reason for this jump in price is the high temperature of the last few days. which cause stress because of drought for the plants. Potatoes which were planted later as e.g. in Belgium have been hit by the high temperature. Up to now trial digs carried out in Germany in general supplied yields below average from a decreased area. Belgian exporters pointed out a brisk demand from England, which will probably continue during the coming weeks as well.
