Germany: Vine tomato price 4% lower than 2008-2011

In the spring and summer of 2011, vine tomatoes were very reasonable in the German food trade. This year, consumers will have to pay a bit more again, according to information provided by the German Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI).

"At 1.42 Euro per kilogram, the prices in July were still 4% lower than the average in the years 2008-2011. Organic vine tomatoes were also slightly more expensive than last year. From June on, however, price levels dropped below last year's," according to the AMI. Profits for organic products in spring and summer came to about 2 Euro per kilogram. This situation has hardly changed in the last five years.
