One of the most powerful changes that the table grape industry has experienced in the last few years has been the tendency towards a production that minimizes the use of pesticides, a key aspect in the quality and condition of the fruit. It also has a
direct impact on the system cost of the fruit industry. That is why on August 21, 2012, the Institute of Agricultural Research lNIA Cruz will give a seminar on results of the first stage of the project known as Phytosanitary Management Strategies for Table Grape Exports, aimed at reducing the use of pesticides, which has funding from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The activity is aimed at agricultural professionals, exporters in the industry, authorities, pesticide distributors, advisers and farmers. This event will be held in Los Andes at the Plaza Hotel located in Manuel RodrÃguez No. 368, at 09:00 hours.
The seminar will feature prominent speakers of the technical team that will address the various aspects associated with strategies and methodologies to minimize the use of pesticides in fruit for both control of pests and diseases as proper use of agricultural machinery.
The program is under construction. However, some of the speakers and topics are: Carlos Quiroz, national project manager and entomologist, Agronomist, M.Sc., PhD. will give welcoming remarks and presentation of the Project. Paulina Bermudez, Agronomist, M.Sc. will speak on pest monitoring results for table grapes and
impact on chemical control. Paulina Sepulveda, plant pathologist, Agronomist, M.Sc. will speak of table grape diseases and Jorge Riquelme, agricultural mechanization, agricultural engineer, M.Sc., PhD. will speak about optimizing pesticide application for table grapes in Spanish grapevine using orchard sprayers. At the end of the day
there will be a round of consultations with the panelists.
