Raid at wholesale market

Budapest - Gyula Budai, the Hungarian secretary-general of the ministry of Agriculture had a large raid carried out last week at the wholesale trade for fruit and vegetables in Budapest. The combined action by amongst others police, disaster services, tax authority, customs and labour inspection produced 66 tons of fruit and vegetables of unknown origin. Budai says that the goods are probably from abroad (Rumania, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovakia) and were for a part imported illegally. The products were then repacked in order to be sold as 'real Hungarian products' at a higher price.

Two weeks ago already another 15 tons of fruit and vegetables was confiscated and Budai announced that this was 'only the beginning of a series of check-ups to eliminate criminal traders in the interest of honest producers and sellers.'
