Brazillian mango season gets underway

With Ecuador delayed by a few weeks and Brazil shippers starting up early this year, so far nearly 200 loads of mangoes have been shipped to the US through the 19th of August.

The first fruit (2 loads) was shipped on the 16-18th of July. Since then the weekly shipments have increased 84/85 loads on 19 August.

From here on out Brazil shippers expect to have 100 loads per week heading for the USA market. Peak volume out of Brazil is expected to ship during mid September 2012 during week 36, 37 & 38.

Exporters plan to cap volume for USA at 120 containers per week.

Total volume for the USA market is expected to remain constant compared to last season with approximately 6,000,000 total (4kg) cartons.

As Mexico ships the tail end of their season, Brazil importers are commanding a two to three dollar per carton premium with fruit trading in the $6.75 - 7.00 range.

Los Mochis fruit is struggling to hold a $3.00 - 4.00 market with a lot of rain damaged fruit hitting the USA market.
