2011-2012 campaign

Spain: CASI predicts 190 million Euro turnover

CASI is still an example to follow as regards tomato commercialization in the province of Almeria, Spain, if we are to take turnover prospects for the current campaign into consideration. In this sense, CASI president, José María Andújar, assured that "this has been a year of relief, satisfaction and profitability" and that will be reflected in CASI'S turnover figures for the 2011-2012 campaign, which "are estimated to reach over 190 million Euro," compared to the 160 million of the previous season. Furthermore, "tomato prices will be acceptable," which is what matters most to our members.

Part of the success is due to the Integral Management Project, launched by the current Governing Board three years ago with the challenge of improving management, commercialization and production aspects, and which is bringing positive results.

José María Andújar affirms that he will abide by the line of professionalism and modernization already in place, although he adds that "the responsibility lies with the members," who he asks for their "support and understanding to continue implementing the reforms needed to maintain CASI'S leadership in tomato exports."

Finally, José María Andújar highlighted the important role played by cooperatives and added that they have proved to be a solid and durable model. At CASI, the figures are also positive: "we have over 1,800 members, we give direct employment to more than 800 people just in the cooperative, and the campaign which now comes to an end, still with provisional data, will close with a turnover of over 190 million Euro."
