Costa Rica: Since 2009 agricultural exports are increasing

According to statistics from PROCOMER, since 2009 Costa Rica has been increasing its revenues year after year thanks to its agricultural product exports. In 2011, for the Central American country, agricultural exports totaled $2,462,352.5 (FOB value). The main export market for Costa Rica continues to be North America which accounted for USD 1,175,273.9. The proximity to transport their products as well as their good quality has made Costa Rican product demand constant and solid in the U.S. market.

After North America, the European Union is the second destination of agricultural exports from Costa Rica, which accounted for USD 1,034,558.6. In order of importance, but with significantly smaller margins, are markets in Asia and Central America.

Among the agricultural products of Costa Rica is the Gold pineapple, which is well received in international markets for its excellent flavor and quality. In addition, bananas also represent one of the most important fresh fruit for the Central American nation.

According to PROCOMER, until June of 2012 in Costa Rica, agricultural exports have represented $1,418,439 (FOB value). So far, North America remains the main destination for exports with $ 681,886.8 (FOB value) followed by the European Union with $559,696.1 (FOB value).
