Philiep Willems, Coobra:

"Belgium: "Raspberry market good entire season"

The raspberry supply started later this season, but up to now went well. This Philiep Willems of Veiling Coöbra tells. The manager mentions that there is a normal supply at the moment. "In addition the weather is good of course and the market is doing better than last year. At the moment we can speak of smooth sales locally and also the export is doing well. About 65% is sold in Belgium and the remainder is meant for abroad."

Difference in price
There is a large difference in price with last season. Then the price was 85 cents for 125 gr. and now between 1.10 and 1.20. Last year it was a little colder than now and less was harvested and supplied. This year after a later harvest we can speak right from the start of a good situation and we have not had bad prices so far. It is of course first class weather for soft fruit. Philiep mentions, that in general the second and third week of August are difficult. "Up to now we have not noticed this and if it stays like this, that will be a good omen for the rest of the season."

Coöbra offer raspberries till the end of November/middle of December. The auction house has specialised the last few years in the marketing of soft fruit. Raspberries are the most important, but also red and white berries, black currants and blue berries corner the market. This applies to both the popular and the organic cultivation.
