France: First Chinese Nashi pears available today at 888 Fruit Company

At 888 Fruit Company the first Nashi-pears from China arrive today. "Due to the modern CA-technologies we can offer the Nashi-pears until next year, We expect 1 to 2 containers weekly. We have made a schedule with our trader to be able to foresee our European retail customers with Nashi-pears," says Nico Schaft from Rungis.

These first yellow coloured Nashi-pears are of the variety Emerald. Nico Schaft of 888 tells us that other varieties are available such as Century, Crystal, Crown and Golden. All products from China are sold under the own brand 888. "We sell Nashi-pears mainly to Chinese wholesalers, but also more and more to wholesale companies here in France," says the importer.

According to the importer the sales of the Nashi-pears increases yearly. "But it remains a niche-product. That's why it's important that you're guaranteed fixed sales. You can also clearly see that some importers that started importing Nashi pears a few years ago have stopped and that the traditional importers have remained."
