Germany: Berry harvest has started

The German state North Rhine Westphalia currently has large amounts of berries, reports the German website Gabot.de. Besides raspberries, which have been harvested since the end of June, currants, blueberries and brambles are also in supply at the moment.

Thanks to late varieties, raspberries are picked until the first frost. In North Rhine Westphalia they are grown on around 120 hectares. The harvest of red currants last until September. The main variety in July is the Rovada. This variety is extremely suitable for processing, but can also be eaten fresh. In North Rhine Westphalia currants are grown on around 150 hectares, of which 50 hectares are intended for processing.

The cultivation of blueberries was extended in the last few years. Now these loved, tasty and healthy fruits are grown in the state on around 70 hectares.
