Making agreements now is crucial for European citrus season
"Last season we marketed serious volumes of oranges, grapefruit and lemons. We are planning to double these volumes this coming season. We are not trying to do that only by finding new clients, but more by increasing the volumes with the existing client base. Looking at the increase we made last season, this should be possible. The plan on how to do that is very solid," Peter says.
The expected volume of organic citrus fruit from Greece is much higher than last year. There are many square meters extra available which needs to be programmed in the market as well. Organic Fruit & Vegetables B.V. is already now planning and programming these volumes to keep the price pressure away from the market. Only that way can the growers be rewarded with an acceptable return.
"It’s crucial to make your agreements now to guarantee a good season for all," is Erik’s and Peter’s clear opinion. And the best part is to combine business and pleasure - "What is nicer than having a serious business meeting during a lunch in a Greek city at the harbor in July?"
"The availability for the coming season is guaranteed and regarding the sales we need to make our agreements with the clients a bit earlier than usual to make the right balance between demand and availability.”
"At least, again, we are able to say that we are the address for organic citrus from Greece this coming season.”
