Russia: Astrakhan watermelon season two weeks early

Favourable weather conditions last spring influenced the growth and development of agricultural plants, including gourds, according to information agency, Kazah-Zerno.

Melon farmers in Astrakhan started gathering watermelons two weeks prior to the regular harvest time. The Foton variety is of medium ripening characteristic, its time from sprouting to first harvest is 70 to 75 days. It gives a good crop of 40-50, and even up to 100 tons/Ha when properly irrigated. It is easily transported, anthracnose resistant and has pink insides with tender perfect taste quality.

These watermelons are already in the markets of Kutum and other Russian cities.
