Russia: UGMK plans for cucumber area expansion
The area of the 1st greenhouse section of "UGMK-Agro" is 4 Hectares. The 2nd and 3rd section will occupy 8 more Hectares. The construction is carried out using local materials, but all technical components will be imported from abroad. The 1st section was equipped in the same way. Dutch technology is applied for growing vegetables using automatic drip irrigation and computer climate control. According to "UralInformBureau" the approximate value of both new stages of greenhouses is 550 million Rubles (17m USD).
"The project is supported by the State Government, – as Commercial Director of "UGMK-Agro" Ltd. Mr. Roman Pavkner said. – The Budget of Sverdlovskaya region for the current year already includes the subsidies amounting to 82 million Rubles, especially for this project".
It is expected that the first crop will ripen in the new greenhouses in May 2013. Starting the operation of these new facilities will allow "UGMK-Agro" to get an additional 4,400 tons of vegetables per year. The third section is intended for tomatoes, as well as the first section which is already finished. The second section is intended for cucumbers. In the 1.2 Hectares area of the second section the operators will apply the system of supplementary lighting, which will provide crops all year round.
As the volumes of production increase, the Holding plans to expand the sales market. It is planned, that vegetables from the Sverdlovsk region will be welcome in Perm, Tyumen and Chelyabinsk regions.
