India: Euro Fruit's most eventful table grape export season to date

Euro Fruits India recently concluded what was its most eventful table grape export season in its 20 year history.

The 2012 season started in early January, though the preparations necessary to make it a success began 6 months prior to this with the opening of a new, state of the art grape packhouse, in Nashik.

The focus of the new facility is very much on hygiene and temperature management. Euro Fruits' Nashik packhouse has emerged as one of India's most modern post harvest facilities.

The exports this season have been the company's highest to date, with over 5,000 metric tonnes shipped, thus the investment in the post harvest facility paid dividends.

Euro Fruits says that its success stems from its focus on so much more than just quality and quantity. For example, the company considers such things as social responsibility and sustainability of importance. An example of this is that Euro Fruits became the first company to export Indian Fairtrade grapes to the UK.

Euro Fruits actually guided the Fairtrade growers through the processes necessary to become accredited with Fairtrade certification.

Given the demand that the company's European clients have for social compliance, Euro Fruits is proud to announce that its new packing house has been audited to the very latests version of the BSCI code of conduct. The company reports that this is the first example of small grape farmers in the country being exposed to formal labor related standards compliance.

European supermarkets have responded favourably to the company's new capabilities, Euro Fruits reports, with large orders placed for both private punnet labels and generic retailing.

The company is still focusing its efforts in South East Asian markets right now and the team has been developing its knowledge in this area during the recent season.

The company says that the team have conducted themselves with total commitment and zeal, saying "Euro Fruits considers itself very fortunate to have the most motivated and experienced team in the industry."

The company says it has the unique distinction of having worked with the same growers and suppliers for many years. This, they say, is the key to their success, as it enables them to offer consistency in terms of quality, food safety and much more besides. The company says this has helped it to retain successful relationships with its European based retail customers throughout the years. In acknowledgement of the continued trade, the company says, "We would like to thank all of our clients for the continued trust and support they have placed in us."

Euro Fruits says it is looking forward to the future with great excitement and confidence.
