Canada: Main harvest underway at Jealous Fruits

The main harvest has now commenced with Lapin. The fruit has a beautiful, firm, crunchy texture and is peaking on 9 and 9.5 row. The stems are particularly plump and green.

Later this week Jealous fruits will have a limited volume of Rainier available from their high elevation Cholla Hills Farm location. Sweethearts are estimated to start August 8th followed by Staccatos approximately August 15th.

The weather has been very good so far. Since the last significant rain shower event on the 3rd of July, there has only been a total of 9 mils (1/3 of an inch) of rain, all in showers of very brief duration. Daytime highs have ranged from 27C to a maximum of 32C, and nighttime temperatures in the range of 11 to 15C, encouraging plump, hard cherries. The moderate north Okanagan climate has been a particular blessing this year, providing shelter from the extreme weather generally prevalent.
