Netherlands: fruit company converts to iPad

Aartsenfruit, a company based in Breda, in the South Netherlands, has introduced the iPad as a way to keep track of its sales. Late last year it opened a new outlet in Venlo, and as an experiment it implemented a tailor-made system using the iPad.

"By now, we have employed the system in all our outlets," says Toon Aarts of Aartsenfruit. "In the old days, when retailers came to shop with us, we used to write down the orders on a piece of paper, after which we fed them to a computer in order to print out the receipt. Now, we simply type them down on the iPad and the customer is on his merry way."

Slip-ups and errors are down, claims Aarts. "The whole thing took some getting used to, but it caught on and now we can’t do without." More iPad applications are on the way. "Just think of things like quality control, stock regulation and so on," says Aarts.
