Deprez Construct:

Belgium: Automatisation ever more affordable; labour ever more expensive

Much has changed the last years in the sorting out and packing of potatoes and onions. Things have been automated completely and the unloading, destoning, sorting out and packing by hand is now a thing of the past.

"One step in the process of automatisation implies a next one," says Johan Deprez from Deprez Construct. As ever more is possible technically, step by step the process is automated.

As an example Deprez gives the automated sorting out and laying in of a cooled packing-cases warehouse. The next step is an automated cleaning system of the packing-cases.

At the end he explains that also the Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), an advanced kind of fork-lift truck, has a good future.
