Netherlands: The Boumans start Fruit Market International (FMI)
"Obviously is was a great disappointment when Solfruit and Apollo Fruit, four years after being sold by the family Bouman, went insolvent. A nice company, in which many people invested their time and energy and heart, it is painful to see when it goes insolvent" René Bouman says. As the family Bouman is the owner of the shed and office building in which Solfruit and Apollo Fruit were established, Henk Bouman and sons René and Peter decided to start with a small team new activities under the name FMI (Fruit Market International BV). For that René and his family returned from Greece and Peter has stopped his studies for the time being. Also Wim Bezemer, Medhat Samir and Mirza Husic have a place in the commercial team of FMI.
We will, full of courage and fresh energy, start. We mainly go for imports from overseas (Middle East, South and Middle America and South Africa), and also imports from Italy, Greece and Spain" Rene continues. "Relationships built up over a number of years are mostly active still and we already have received quite some trade. At the moment we offer Egyptian grapes, limes from Brazil, Chinese garlic, soft fruit from Spain and Greece, Turkish cherries, Italian grapes and watermelons. It was not an easy time, but we look at the future of FMI with confidence."
