Spain: Good quality and stable prices for Melones de Villaconejos

The season is going well for Melones de Villaconejos. This firm, located 40 km away from Madrid, specialises in the commercialization of Piel de Sapo melons under their own brand, Copón de Melón.

"This season we are producing good quality melons and prices remain stable," says Isabel Montero Ruiz, owner and Business Manager of the firm.

The fruit sold by Melones de Villaconejos comes from regions such as Almería, Murcia, Toledo and even Villaconejos, although they also import from Brazil, Senegal, etc. The firm sells 85% of the melons within Spain and the other 15% are exported to markets such as the Netherlands and Portugal.

The Piel de Sapo variety contains sugar levels of 12 to 14 Brix and is packaged in cardboard boxes of different sizes, depending on clients' needs.

Currently the firm possesses the ISO certification and its producers the one from GlobalGap.

"New clients and new markets are always welcome. Germany could be a good market, but the climate is not ideal. Our goal is to open to new markets and make the company grow," concludes Isabel.
