Spain: Mercadona defies crisis

Mercadona, the company in Valencia, managed to improve on its turnover. This has resulted in the inauguration of a logistics center in the industrial area of Villadangos del Páramo, leading to a 200 million Euro investment and the creation of 400 jobs.

Julio Casado, responsible for Mercadona’s external relations in Castile and Leon, is “optimistic” about the company’s future. He is expecting good results, meaning a continuation of profitable turnover and the hiring of new staff in 2013. “This shows that we can keep going, in spite of the crisis.”

Mercadona remains one of the few profitable companies in the current crisis.
