In Gimenells (Lleida)

Spain: XVI Exhibition of peach and nectarine varieties

Coming 26 of July, Gimenells (Lleida) will welcome the technical mission organized by IRTA, from the Department of Agriculture from the Catalonia local government, to show peach and nectarine varieties.

In the whole of Catalonia a growing specialization is observed in the peach and nectarine cultivations, to the detriment of other species traditionally cultivated like apple and pear. This is due to the fact that they can get high quality productions with competitive conditions, compared to other countries.

With the objective of getting to know which varieties are better adapted to Catalonian weather conditions, that bring up better quality and which technology to apply, IRTA has the evaluation program for vegetable materials. This program allows the selection, every year, of the most highlighted varieties, to know its characteristics and to transfer that information, continuously updated, to the sector.
