A mainly positive start of the potato harvest

Germany - The situation on the potato market is good in Germany at the moment. There is hardly any supply pressure and there is a mainly good balance between harvested quantities and demand.

In the federal state of Lower Saxony a few foodstuff chains changed over to local product a week earlier than in 2011. Also in Bavaria and Lowerrhine the tendency is the same. Imports still have only a limited influence on the market. Only in a few large supermarkets early potatoes from Spain and Portugal will still be on the shelves at the full price for another 14 days.

The export trade also starts positively. Potatoes from Lower Saxony were already sold to Denmark and also sales from the Pfalz to the Benelux countries are doing well, because the harvest in these countries has been delayed.
