Total onion export 5% lower

Netherlands: Russia purchases 79% fewer onions in first five months

In the first five months, the Dutch onion export turned out 5% lower than in the same period in 2011.

The decline of 364 to 345 million kilograms is largely due to the decrease of Russian export (-79%). Moreover, many customarily important destination countries purchased less, such as Germany (-37%), Senegal (-9%), Ivory Coast (-37%), the United Kingdom (-6%) and Poland (-69%). There was clearly more export to African countries, such as Mauretania, Guinea, Gambia and Sierra Leone. In addition, several American and Asian destinations imported more onions from The Netherlands, such as the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
