Argentina: Meeting of the Observatory of Apples and Pears

The Producers Federation requested for the tax component of production costs to be added to the analysis of the fruit sector situation. Yesterday the first meeting of the Fruit Observatory of Apples and Pears was held by teleconference at the headquarters of the Federal Investment Council in Neuquén, Argentina.

National, regional and fruit sector representatives took part in it. After an overview of everything that had been done since the last meeting, in August 2011, the working agenda was set up for this new stage.

As informed by the Federation, the entity, which brings producers together, insisted on the institutionalization and regulation of the land. It also proposed to advance on the analysis of the internal market chain down to the consumer to find out how all the income is distributed.

The Ministry of Labour put special emphasis on the implementation of Guild Responsibility Agreements.

It was also agreed to work on the transparency of the business; the possibility of improving pricing information on foreign markets and the creation of a database of executed settlements with the producers were two of the issues discussed. They will meet again on the 31st.
