US (OR): Good blackberry market anticipated

Although peak volumes of blackberries are still a few weeks away in Oregon, current market prices promise a good season for the state's berry growers.

“Early varieties will bring light volumes through July,” said Jaysen Weidner of Hurst's Berry Farm in Sheridan, Oregon. “Peak volumes will arrive at the start of August and should continue through the end of the month,” he added.

A good growing season has been favorable to this year's crop, and Weidner said everything looks good so far.

“The crop looks great, there was a good set,” he said. That bodes well for growers as current prices are favorable to growers.

“The market has been quite strong,” said Weidner. “Prices are good and stable, and that should carry over into our season. It's shaping up to be a good season.”
