Gaasboxx Geveldrain: the solution for water problems in and around the glasshouse
In certain periods of the year rain is so plentiful that the calculated capacity of the glasshouse discharge systems are insufficient. Rainwater which cannot be discharged via the vertical discharge pipes runs over the gutter. Once on the ground next to the glasshouse this water will very often form puddles, which at the worst may enter the glasshouse. Once in the glasshouse this water could cause various problems, amongst which an increased air humidity or an unstable cultivation floor. Also during the winter season a so-called cold bridge may arise, which could cause considerable differences in temperature with all kinds of results.
Geveldrain
Gaasboxx, which became known in horticulture as a form of underground water storage, have used various projects during the last few years in order to fight against water problems round glasshouses. Gaasboxx have a large volume and a very open structure. It contains 94% air. Other systems, such as a drainage hose or gravel container only offer a temporary and limited solution, as the volume is not large enough or the flow through is limited. From experience it has become clear that even water already inside the glasshouse causing problems, was removed via the Gaasboxx geveldrain system.
When using Gaasboxx for underground storage the Gaasboxx blocks are packed in watertight plastic and form a storage with a high capacity. If, however, the blocks are used as front draining system the blocks are not packed in plastic but in a specially water permeable cloth. The so-called geo-textile makes sure that the water can enter the blocks with no soil entering the system.
The width of the Gaasboxx Geveldrain system may vary depending on the length of the front. The Gaasboxx blocks are buried in a trench at about 10 cm below the top of the soil. When the water permeable cloth has been folded round the block, the trench can be filled with soil. The covered system is safely bedded down for small vehicles such as a lawnmower.
