UK: Marco profitability system is the ‘cherry on the top’ for Mansfields’ Pack-house

Marco Yield Control Modules (YCM) are continuing to bring important savings and benefits for Mansfields’ at their fruit pack-house in Kent with multi-station systems currently installed on lines for packing both strawberries and cherries.

Mansfields are a major UK grower and packer of top, stone and soft fruit with over 40 years’ experience. Based on the outskirts of Canterbury, the family run business has established itself as the largest UK apple and cherry grower, whilst also growing significant volumes of pears, plums and strawberries.

Traditional weight control systems on manual fruit packing lines typically result in unnecessary over-packing of up to 10%, clearly affecting profitability. The Marco YCM is specifically designed to reduce this over-pack, whilst increasing line speeds and improving overall pack quality. Workstations feature intuitive screen prompts and an easy-to-follow traffic light acceptance sequence to guide operators through the packing process. Marco’s award winning yield control software continually updates tolerances at individual workstations to ensure packs are consistently within fractions of a gram of required target weights, whilst maintaining packing legislative compliance.

Mansfields’ General Manager, Chris Lynch is pleased with the improvements and as he concludes: “We have established a strong relationship with Marco and their systems continue to bring important savings to our pack-house. Our over-pack has been virtually eliminated and our productivity has increased. Such benefits are very important, especially in the current economic climate.”
