Huancavelica (Peru)
Peruvian Hass avocado exports to Europe will be promoted
The Government of Huancavelica, Peru will promote the production of Hass avocados with the objective of increasing exports of this fruit to the European market, taking advantage of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed by Peru and the European Union.
The president of Huancavelica, Maciste Díaz, informed that his administration would work hand in hand with local farmers to increase the number of hectares dedicated to the production of Hass avocados by 1,000.
"Avocado exports are very important for us, and Europe is a very interesting market. The people of Huancavelica will definitely benefit from the FTA," he declared.
He explained that the regional Government is coordinating a group of agricultural entrepreneurs to obtain a large number of plants from this variety and give its cultivation a boost in the areas where irrigation systems will be implemented.
He mentioned that the goal of his administration is for Huancavelica to be growing 5,000 hectares of Hass avocado by 2014.
