Germany: New organic potato season has started in Germany

The German organic potatoes harvest is underway. Demand and sale of the German product is going well, reports the Fruchtportal. In comparison to last year, organic potato growers from Palts and Beieren are feeling less pressure in regards to a surplus or the remaining imports. The Organic Potato Growers Association Erzeuger has a clear view of the supply.

The late evening frosts in the middle of May lowered the growth and return. In Palts the early harvest is now halfway through and it is clear that the yield will be 25% lower than expected. Similar situations are happening in Austria as well.

The potatoes were planted under good conditions in the early spring. It is not yet possible to forecast the harvest, but as it currently stands, lower profits are expected.
