Spain: MARM's estimate on the agricultural campaign

The Ministry of Agriculture (MAGRAMA) has just published its estimate on areas and productions, corresponding to data from 31 of May of 2012.
Some noteworthy points regarding fruits and vegetables:

- Production estimations for early potato and mid-station potato register increases of 6.4% and 0.1%, respectively.

- For tomato of 1-I/31-V harvest, the production estimate points to a drop of 4.8%, and the first estimation for 1-X/31-XII tomato cultivated area pointed towards stability (-0.2%).

- In cultivated area, the estimation for onion registers a drop of 10.7% that, separated by varieties, shows a drop of 4.6% for babosa, -16% for grain and medium grain onion and a 13.7% increase for other onions. In production, the estimate points to a drop of 31.9% in onion babosa, and a 23.3% drop for grain and medium grain.

- Regarding other vegetables, the production estimations register increases, for artichoke (+12.2%), watermelon (+9.9%), green beans (+7.9%), broccoli (+0.8%) and cauliflower (+0.5%); decreases are registered for lettuce (-2.7%), spinach (-4.1%) and asparagus (-17,4%), regarding the previous campaign.

- Production estimations for fruit point to a rise in peach (+25,4%), almond (+6.9%) and banana (+5.1%), while there's a drop for pear (-12.5%), apple (-5.4%), peach (-5.3%), cherry (-4.1%) and plum (-2.4%), regarding the previous campaign.

- Production predictions for mandarine in the 2011/2012 campaign, ascend to 2.11 million tons. For grapefruit there's a slight rise in production (+0.2%), while for sweet orange and lemon estimations point to drops of 10.1% and 0.4%, respectively.
