According to a Belgian exporter the vegetable market is not really doing well. "The demand and the prices of most of the vegetables are under pressure at the moment. As far as tomatoes are concerned these were reasonably stable, but decreased again yesterday to 50 cents. The breakfast tomatoes even reached 38/39 cents and those are really not prices at all."
"Pepper prices are also under pressure, especially for green and red. Yellow and orange are more expensive, respectively 1.30 and 1.90. The demand for the last two is really good. Cucumbers also are doing well at the moment with 30 to 35 cents."
According to the trader prices of lettuce and alternative lettuce varieties are under a lot of pressure. "These are prices 10 cents and below. A lot of alternative lettuce varieties are being destroyed because of oversupply. Especially in Germany production is at a high level. With this nice weather growth is quicker and the production does not keep up with demand. Now we wait and see how it will go further."
