Research at testing station for vegetable cultivation:

"9% more yield and denser cucumbers with Pentakeep"

The testing station for vegetable cultivation (Groenteteelt) in Sint-Katelijne Waver (Belgium) has conducted research regarding the working of the Japanese fertiliser called Pentakeep in growing cucumbers. Pentakeep is a liquid nitrogen fertiliser, containing 5 amino acids, which is important in photo-synthesis. During the testing, the variety Proloog from Rijk Zwaan was grown on a rock wool mat called 'Grotop Master' from Grodan.

During the experiment, two fields of eight plants were treated with Pentakeep and compared with untreated plants. The research concluded that the plants handled with Pentakeep had:
  • higher production (9% more yield)
  • denser fruits than average
  • more profit from the 8th week of harvest
  • decreased succession of fruit
  • less rank growth
