Harold Loonen of Fresh Produce:

"Good season for Egyptian red onions"

The season of Egyptian red onions started at Fresh Produce in Waalwijk, the Netherlands, a month ago. "The season is going well. We profit from the bad onion quality of European soil. We receive sufficient supply from Egypt of firm, dry onions" Harold Loonen says. According to the importer Egypt have done extremely well qualitatively in onion cultivation over the last few years.

Fresh Produce mainly supply red Egyptian onions to wholesalers. "Normally speaking
we receive supply from Egypt till the first week of August. Prices are at a good level, on average quite a bit higher than last year" the importer says. "There is hardly any competition from other areas in the month of July."
