"Morris Peters: "We are hoping for better weather so demand rises"

Netherlands: Daily supply of Spanish melons at Witkamp

The fruit and vegetable trading company called Witkamp in Poeldijk receives melons daily from Spain. The company receives melons such as Galia-, Cantaloupe-, Piel de Sapo-, Honey Dew- and seedless watermelon, as well as water melon in packaging bins. "With new product arriving daily, we are always able to offer fresh product. Due to having good relations with different suppliers in Spain we are able to work with competitive prices. We carry different brands so there is something for every customer," says Morris Peters.

Witkamp is currently receiving melons from Almeria and Murcia. "It is a good Spanish season. There is a good supply of melons that are of good quality," says Morris. "The demand for melons has been reasonable. We are hoping for better weather by the end of the week so the demand gets a boost. The price level is average for the time of year with a price level around 45/59 cent/kg for seedless watermelons. It is expected that the rest of the season should stay positive. We are switching over to the cultivation in Murcia and are hoping for improvements so the demand continues to increase."
