South Africa: Undercover Farming Expo 2013

Following the success of the inaugural Undercover Farming Expo held at the Saint George Convention Centre near Pretoria earlier this year, Undercover Farming Expo will be back – bigger and better – from 5 – 7 March 2013. Exhibitors are invited to book exhibition space early so as to secure the best possible position and to qualify for the early bird discounted rates.

This expo and conference, which focuses on intensive farming techniques and farming industries, creates an excellent information source for existing and potential producers and buyers of vegetables, flowers, fruit and seedlings being produced under protective cover, as well as for suppliers to the industry.

Hanlie Delport, Exhibition Manager of Undercover Farming Expo, says the inaugural event was received with enthusiasm by exhibitors, conference delegates, speakers and visitors. "In a survey done after this year’s expo 93 percent of our exhibitors indicated that they were happy with the quality of visitors who attended the expo, 91 percent felt that the expo met their expectations and 94.1 percent indicated that they will exhibit again in 2013. The show has established itself as the perfect platform for reaching target customers, forging business relationships and promoting the use of new technologies throughout the intensive farming industry. We are convinced that this expo will soon be among the finest of its kind in the world."

Undercover Farming Expo 2013 will again present a large exhibition with products and services for the intensive farming industry, farm visits, networking opportunities, workshops and a high level conference themed 'Applying technology for sustainability,' held in partnership with Agribusiness in Sustainable Natural African Plant Products (ASNAPP).

Tunnel and shade-net farming started in South Africa in 1973 and consists of three major sectors namely vegetables produced under protection, flower producers and seedling growers. The tunnels or multi-spans are equipped with modern technology for optimal management and production. Most farmers use hydroponics and a growth medium.

"This form of production offers the ideal solution to producers investigating alternative methods of farming because of the increasing dryer climate. Our expo covers all the elements involved in this production method, from tunnel construction, growth enhancements and climate conditions to seedlings, packaging and export opportunities," says Delport.

Undercover Farming Expo is the initiative of the publication Undercover Farming, which has been focusing on the intensive farming industry for more than eight years. The expo is supported by Intensive Agriculture South Africa (IASA), South African Flower Growers (SAFGA) and the Seedling Growers Association of South Africa (SGASA).
