Wheeler will serve as President

US: Florida Citrus Mutual announces officers

Mark Wheeler, Chief Financial Officer of Wheeler Farms Inc. in Lake Placid, will serve as Mutual’s president during the year. Wheeler succeeds Victor Story Jr. who will remain on Mutual’s Executive Committee.

"Over the past two years Vic Story has done a tremendous job as president of Mutual," said Michael W. Sparks, executive VP/CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual. "Mark has a tough act to follow but I know he is up for the challenge and I look forward to working with him."

Wheeler is a third generation citrus grower and a fifth generation Florida agriculturalist. He sits on the Board of Wheeler Brothers Inc., a harvesting company, and he serves as president of Boston Mining Inc., a citrus and real estate investment firm. He is also on the Ag First/Farm Credit Board of Directors. Wheeler has a BS in Finance from Troy University in Alabama.

"I’m proud to serve on the Board of Florida Citrus Mutual and humbled to be elected President," Wheeler said. "I’ll do my best to maintain the bar set by Vic Story."

Mutual’s vice-presidents for the 2012-2013 season are: Bo Bentley of Winter Haven representing the western area; Kevin Bynum, of Vero Beach, representing the eastern area; Larry Black of Fort Meade representing the northern area; and Steve Johnson of Wauchula representing the southern area. Steve Sorrells of Arcadia was re-elected as secretary and Dennis Broadaway of Haines City was re-elected as treasurer.

The elections took place at Mutual 64th annual meeting which was held at the Florida Citrus Industry Annual Conference in Bonita Springs on June 14, 2012.

Mutual also officially installed its 21-member board of directors at the annual meeting. Each director serves a one-year term, with a term limit of two years for the president.

The Florida citrus industry creates a $9 billion annual economic impact, employing nearly 76,000 people, and covering more than 550,000 acres. Founded in 1948 and currently representing nearly 8,000 grower members, Florida Citrus Mutual is the state’s largest citrus grower organization.
